About Our Programs

Each of our Martial Arts programs are designed especially for specific age groups. Our Little Grasshopper program is designed for ages 4-5. Our Youth Program is designed for ages 6-9. Our Junior Program is designed for ages 11-15, and our Adult Programs are designed for ages 16 and up.

Our Martial Arts Program offers a perfectly blended mixture of Kempo Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Jiu-Jitsu. This mixture makes our programs exciting and efficient.

We also offer specialty programs for adults including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Cardio Kickboxing. Please refer to the program you desire to learn more about that specific program.

What Makes a Great Martial Arts Academy?

What makes a great US Martial Arts Academy? Is it the facility? A good looking, clean and well-equipped facility can make training fun. Is it the curriculum that makes a great Academy? Yes, it's certainly a factor, but still, are these the heart-and-soul of a great Academy. A great Academy has a great staff. It starts with the master instructor, and flows down through the instructors, assistant instructors, administration directors, program directors, and front-desk staff. If the team is healthy, productively focused and on the same page then the school can soar. We are totally dependent on our instructors and staff to maintain our, "Tradition of Excellence." Our goal remains to provide the very best training, service, and facility for our students and parents. This requires a motivated, educated, and talented Staff.

The Difference Between Our Program and Other Activities

There are valuable lessons to be learned in any form of organized sports. Baseball, basketball, soccer, football, gymnastics, swimming, etc., all teach personal dedication, team work and physical fitness. The US Martial Arts Academy goes one step further in that we consider ourselves an institution of learning, thus the use of the word Academy in our name. We will make every effort to help you complete the requirements and achieve your Goals. However, the responsibility for practice is on your shoulders. The martial arts is not a seasonal sport, the martial arts is a life long journey of self-development. Our martial arts program focuses on self-confidence, respect, goal setting, discipline and self-defense. Students are here to improve the quality of their lives, through lessons and skills that could save lives. Our commitment to academic standards compels us to operate our program with principles similar to a college or private school, or any other institution of learning.

Why is Martial Arts so Popular?

Martial arts training is so popular because no other activity can provide the same positive results, on a personal level, for each individual participant. Whether your goals are self-confidence, self-defense, personal development, fitness, flexibility, or to earn a Black Belt, our Academy will take you there. From our children's program to our martial arts fitness program, our instructors are dedicated to helping you and/or your family achieve your individual goals.

FAQ’s

Do you have contracts?

No, our students are here because they wish to be, not because of some contractual agreement.

How much are your programs?

The first step is to complete the Introductory Program, which only costs $19.95.

Do you offer a family plan?

Yes, we offer special discounts for families.

Are your children and adult classes separated?

The classes are separate. It wouldn't be fair for us to expect a 6-year-old to work out with a 35-year-old, or for an adult to be able to train in self-defense realistically with a child. We split up the age groups into four categories; 4 - 5, 6 - 9, 10 - 15 and 16 - Up. We also segment our classes by Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Students train with their peers by age and by experience. We understand that some parents wish to take classes with their child, so we offer private lessons.

How young do you start children in you program?

Great question. A good age to start training is at 4 years old. We would also like to point out that not all 4 year olds are ready and some 6 year olds are not either, it depends on the child. During the Introductory Program we will determine if the child is ready. We want to make sure that the student will be able to maintain the information, and if their motor skills are developed enough to complete the requirements. They have their entire lives to train in martial arts; we do not wish to force when they are not ready.

Am I too Old to start the martial arts?

Never! Martial arts are beneficial for people of all ages. We emphasize the positive attributes of our students while making allowances for each individuals personal limitations. Martial arts are great for getting in shape, relieving stress, boosting self-confidence and building a positive self-image, all while learning self-defense and knowing that you can protect yourself and your family. Students of all ages are always encouraged to go at their own pace.

Are classes safe?

Although any athletic activity carries a risk of injury, our program places a great emphasis on SAFETY and mutual respect for your classmates. All of our instructors teach with safety first and we also provide the safest flooring system on the market (same mat system that is used in the Olympics.)

How long does it take to achieve the Black Belt?

The average is 3 - 4 years depending on the student. It is by no means a race to get the Black Belt. The Black Belt is not a measure of how long you have been training it is how well you perform and understand the techniques. The dedication for learning is on the student's shoulders, how the student practices and puts forth the effort will greatly determine when the Black Belt is earned.

Do you have a certification for your instructors?

Yes, all of our Instructors and Assistant Instructors have many requirements that must be meet to even be considered for such a position. All the instructors come from within and have been students with us for years. We have a strict training program and standards of excellence for all our staff. They are trained in how to teach positively, how to motivate, customer service skills, CPR, proper warm up and stretching techniques, just to name a few areas. Staff development is ongoing and never ending. We have monthly training sessions, staff workshops, training videos and tapes and our staff training handbook. We are very proud of our staff-training program.

Do you teach any religious views or values, such as Buddhism or Taoism?

No. We do follow in certain traditions, such as bowing to one another to show respect and courtesy, similar to a handshake. But we do not teach any religion or philosophy.

Will my child become more violent from martial arts training?

On the contrary! Martial arts are for self-defense ONLY. Students are taught from day one to never misuse the martial arts. Contrary to popular belief our students get into fewer conflicts than those that do not study the martial arts. We understand that some children may be hyperactive, aggressive, need to learn respect for self and others or some self-control. These children will benefit greatly from our program. The martial arts are a great way to channel energy in a positive way, while at the same time focusing on respect. Students understand when they can and cannot use their martial arts and to use common sense before self defense.

My child has ADD/ADHD. Will the martial arts help?

The National Attention Deficit Disorder Association and Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder support the idea that martial arts helps these individuals cope with the disorder. They say that such courses help ease the symptoms of the disorder. The martial arts demand a kind of concentration that forces coordination of the attention centers of the brain: the frontal cortex, the cerebellum and the limbic system. The martial arts are repetitive, structured and individualistic, thereby facilitating a learning of the coordination skills that are difficult for those with ADD/ADHD.
