Youth Program Ages 6 - 9
I am sure by now
you understand why the study of martial arts has become so popular among parents and children. Our students are
treated with respect and are taught to return the same respect to others. Praise, encouragement and positive
reinforcement are common place in the dojo. Classes are enjoyable, entertaining and planned to ensure that
we keep the attention of the students and have everyone wanting to come back for more.
In the Youth program students are with their peers and we also have their classes broken down into belt
ranks. Beginner (white, yellow, and orange), Intermediate (Green, blue and purple) and Advanced
(brown and black). This is just another benefit for our students. The Youth program is typically a four-year
program, depending on the student. Once the Youth Black Belt is earned then the student will move up to the
next level, the Junior class and work towards their Junior Black Belt. The curriculum consists of self-defense
techniques from hair grabs, pushes, punches, shirt grabs, etc. Of course there are the kicks and punches, but
most importantly we focus on more than just the typical training areas. We teach verbal self-defense, good
touch-bad touch, what to do if you get lost, say no to drugs, how to defeat the bully, etc. We provide
sleepovers, skating parties, picnics and other activities so that our students can meet new friends and
interact in a safe and positive environment.
As stated before martial arts are great for developing mental and physical fitness, but the foundation
of martial arts is Self-defense. However, we teach children that martial arts are NOT to be used in any manner
other than true self-defense. The result is a self-confident child, who doesn't need to bully or show off to
other children.
- The Youth program consists of forty five-minute classes, twice a week.
- The goal of the Youth program is to earn the Black Belt. Resulting in moving to the next
level; the Junior class.
Don't just take our word for it; listen to what other students have to say about our unique Youth Program!
The U.S. Martial Arts Academy offers an outstanding program for children and adults alike. If you are looking for a program that teaches self-defense, raises self-confidence, and provides exercise, you'll find all those here. The academy not only teaches karate , but helps develop such principles as respect, control, focus, patience, and kindness. These principles are taught and modeled by the instructors. The karate school is a partnership among instructors, parents, and teachers.
Our personal experience with USMAA has been very positive and exciting for our son, Nate. He began the program at age 5 and is now green belt. He always has participated in team sports, but this was a different challenge for him. In this program he only works to better himself.
The instructors at USMAA are outstanding. Their knowledge of karate is exceptional. They are always energetic, positive, and motivating. We are often amazed at their ability to work with small children.
All of the instructors are excellent, but we would be remiss in not mentioning two particular instructors. Mr. Josh Jowers introduced us to the program and since then has maintain a strong contact with our son. He has helped him stay motivated, pushed him to practice and challenge himself, and helped him make positive decisions in his life. Mr. Doug Davis has amazing positive energy. We've never seen him without a smile. He is an outstanding role module to the children, and a talented instructor as well.
Another thing that is impressive about this karate school is their continual improvement. The staff surveys the parents biannually to gather input and makes decisions based upon those surveys. They assess the strengths and weakness of the program and implement changes to better the academy.
Lastly, the karate school also works to build a sense of community. They organize social events where the children can interact and build relationships. The events have included skating parties, buddy nights, picnics, demonstrations at area malls, an d competitions. This is a great way for the students and staff to get to know one another better.
We are proud to be part of the U.S. Martial Arts Academy. We highly recommend it to anyone.
